Welcome to the 2019-2020 academic school year! It’s a beautiful morning and we are excited to have you in class today!
If you were unable to make the honors convocation ceremony this past Thursday, August 22nd, we have an update for you–please watch our video:
As we mentioned in the video, you will get to participate in Relatable Interest Groups this year, otherwise known as RINGS. These RINGS will be hosted by six of your honors faculty (if you didn’t get to meet them, here’s a snippet of their classes!!)
It’s important that you choose your RING today or tomorrow. They include the following:
The Happiness Project RING, hosted by Prof. Dehlia Wallis, professor of Psychology will explore all areas of positive psychology, your own happiness, and what happiness brings to others. Fun service projects will be involved!
The Coffee RING, hosted by Dr. Lennie Irvin, professor of English, will encourage students to learn about and try coffee you possibly haven’t explored before. Coffee shop visits may be involved. 🙂
The Rainbow RING, hosted by Dr. Serafine, professor of history, will focus on LGBTQ+ themes, topics, and peoples. This group will be a safe space for questions, exploration, advocacy, and more.
The Music RING, hosted by Dr. Dustin Tune, professor of Philosophy, will look at all aspects of music: playing, listening, composing, etc. Get in Tune with Dr. Tune!
The Social Networking RING, hosted by Profs. Slonaker and Ramsey, professors of Sociology and Speech, will explore how to increase your social networking to benefit your future!
The Finance and Other Stuff RING, hosted by Dr. Anderson, professor of history, will look at important aspects of finance that aren’t ever taught in a college setting. Learn about credit cards, loans, how to save and budget, etc. Dr. Anderson has a wide breadth of knowledge about various subjects–feel free to ask him to talk about Other Stuff as well!
