Wintermester + Spring Registration + Financial Aid Appeals

Wintermester:
Many of you have been coming in to complete your ISPs and therefore may have heard that the Alamo Colleges offer what’s called a “Wintermester.”  I’ve just received info that we will offer the following online wintermester courses: Wintermester 2019.  I do not have specific start and end dates, but since Wintermester is part of the spring term, you will be able to register at the same time as you will for spring, which will be Nov. 12th.

Spring Registration:
Remember!  As honors students, you receive early registration.  Nov. 12th falls on a Tuesday.  So all CRNs will be due to me by Monday, Nov. 11th at noon At this time, the spring schedule is NOT viewable in Aces.  I will let you know as soon as it is so that you may begin looking up the classes you and I have planned out on your ISP.

If you have not scheduled an appointment to create your ISP, please do so soon either via sachonors.com or with one of the work studies at the front desk.  Remember that ISPs are due by October 31st.

Financial Aid Appeals:
Lastly, if you have received an email or know that you are on financial aid suspension, you are now able to submit a financial aid appeal.  Please book an appointment to do so before October 31st as this is also the deadline to submit them!  Keep in mind that appeals can take up to 7 weeks to process and you will need to ensure you’re able to make your spring payments for classes in the event that the appeal is not processed in time to receive aid or if the appeal is denied.

Welcome New Honors Students!

Dear students,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 academic school year!  It’s a beautiful morning and we are excited to have you in class today!

If you were unable to make the honors convocation ceremony this past Thursday, August 22nd, we have an update for you–please watch our video:

As we mentioned in the video, you will get to participate in Relatable Interest Groups this year, otherwise known as RINGS.  These RINGS will be hosted by six of your honors faculty (if you didn’t get to meet them, here’s a snippet of their classes!!)

It’s important that you choose your RING today or tomorrow.  They include the following:

The Happiness Project RING, hosted by Prof. Dehlia Wallis, professor of Psychology will explore all areas of positive psychology, your own happiness, and what happiness brings to others. Fun service projects will be involved!

The Coffee RING, hosted by Dr. Lennie Irvin, professor of English, will encourage students to learn about and try coffee you possibly haven’t explored before.  Coffee shop visits may be involved. 🙂

The Rainbow RING, hosted by Dr. Serafine, professor of history, will focus on LGBTQ+ themes, topics, and peoples.  This group will be a safe space for questions, exploration, advocacy, and more.

The Music RING, hosted by Dr. Dustin Tune, professor of Philosophy, will look at all aspects of music: playing, listening, composing, etc.  Get in Tune with Dr. Tune!

The Social Networking RING, hosted by Profs. Slonaker and Ramsey, professors of Sociology and Speech, will explore how to increase your social networking to benefit your future!

The Finance and Other Stuff RING, hosted by Dr. Anderson, professor of history, will look at important aspects of finance that aren’t ever taught in a college setting.  Learn about credit cards, loans, how to save and budget, etc.  Dr. Anderson has a wide breadth of knowledge about various subjects–feel free to ask him to talk about Other Stuff as well!
